Beat the competition

See exactly who's beating you. Then take what works.

RankLens finds your competitors in three separate lanes - the map around your locations, real local searches, and keyword overlap across the wider web - then hands you head-to-head teardowns, keyword gaps and link gaps against any of them. Directories and false rivals are filtered out before you ever see a list, and every filtering decision is disclosed, not hidden.

RankLens competitor intelligence screen - map competitors from grid scans, local organic competitors from real searches, and website competitors with authority and keyword-overlap charts

☝ Your row pinned for scale, rivals color-coded by authority, review counts in red where they beat yours - and everything filtered out is disclosed below the table.

Three lanes

Three lanes, because rivals hide in three places

One "competitors" list is usually half junk. RankLens builds three, each from different evidence, with receipts on every row.

  • Map competitors - aggregated from your own rank-grid scans: the businesses Google ranks around your locations, with average and best map rank, rating, review count, and the exact keywords you're fighting over. Grids re-scan automatically every 14 days.
  • Local organic competitors - up to 9 real searches, 3 service keywords × 3 cities, run as mobile results anchored at your business's actual coordinates. A domain must appear in at least 2 of them to make the list.
  • Website competitors - ranked by keyword overlap on the link index included in your plan: authority, traffic, referring domains, shared keywords, and your own row pinned on top for scale.
MAP LANE · FROM YOUR OWN GRID SCANS
Peak Window Pros · avg map rank #2.3 · best #1 · ★ 4.9 · 212 reviews (you: 148) · competing for "window washing" + "gutter cleaning"
LOCAL SEARCH LANE · SEEN IN 7/9 SEARCHES
clearviewcleaning.com · avg position 3.4 · best #1 · refreshed daily, directories excluded
WEBSITE LANE · KEYWORD OVERLAP
local rival  sunshinewash.com · DR 41 · 63 common keywords · 18% overlap

No false rivals

Deduplicated of directories and false rivals - with the work shown

The reason most competitor reports get ignored: they're full of Yelp, Angi, and a same-name plumber three states away. RankLens removes the noise and tells you exactly what it removed.

  • A built-in set of 40+ national directories, aggregators, socials and content mills is filtered automatically - subdomains included
  • AI reads each remaining domain's homepage title and description and labels it - local rival, franchise, supplier, different trade - once per domain, ever; labels are cached for good
  • Domains with under 2% keyword overlap and fewer than 20 shared keywords are binned as incidental - but an AI-confirmed local business stays a rival no matter how small its overlap

Nothing vanishes silently: a collapsible strip lists everything filtered out, national franchises get their own lane (they win with brand and budgets; you beat them locally with reviews and city pages), and you can hide a false positive or add a missed rival in one click.

DISCLOSED, NOT HIDDEN
23 filtered out - directories, suppliers, different trades, incidental keyword overlap, and anything you've hidden.
FRANCHISE STRIP
3 national franchises in your trade - they win with brand + budgets; you beat them locally with reviews and city pages.

Then go on offense

Six ways to take a rival apart

The teardown, AI brief and keyword gap work on any domain in your lanes - or any domain you type in. The rest run on the rivals you track and the searches already checked. The best findings file straight into your task list as work, not trivia.

Head-to-head teardown

Type any domain. You vs them on authority, referring domains, backlinks, organic keywords, mobile page speed, sitemap size, and service and location page counts - winner bolded per row - plus up to 12 cities they cover that you don't.

~15 seconds · cached 12 hours per matchup

AI competitor brief

One click reads up to 9,000 characters of the competitor's homepage and returns their positioning, the services they push, cities they target, trust signals, offers, weak spots - and a 3-5 item "worth stealing" list.

On demand · one AI pass per rival

Keyword gap

Pulls up to 500 of a competitor's top-20 keywords and distills them to the searches where you're absent or worse than position 15 - brand terms excluded, capped at the top 80 by volume. Their ten strongest pages get matched against your closest equivalent, or flagged "no equivalent page. Build one."

Link gap

Domains linking to your tracked competitors (up to 5, 300 referring domains each) but not to you - categorized into directories, local news, associations and institutions. Junk and bought-link networks are filtered out and counted, so you know what was removed.

Content teardowns

Your page vs the exact competitor URL that outranks it in the local searches already checked - measured stats side by side, then an evidence-cited read of what they do better, what you do better, and the specific changes to steal.

AI market research

AI with live web search maps your actual market and returns up to 10 verified local competitors - name, domain, area, and a one-line reason each - excluding directories, suppliers and franchise corporate sites. One click tracks any of them.

30-60 seconds · on demand
Illustrative scenario An HVAC company tears down the rival that owns the map: DR 38 vs their 22, nine location pages vs their one, and 11 cities covered that they don't touch. The keyword gap adds 14 "furnace repair + city" searches where they don't rank at all, and the link gap surfaces the county builders' association linking to three competitors - but not them. Four tasks, filed in one sitting, each with the evidence attached.
Honest limits: keyword-gap search volumes are US-national estimates, not city-level counts - use them to size gaps against each other, not to forecast local traffic. The local search lane checks up to 9 searches (3 service keywords × 3 cities), the link gap watches up to 5 tracked competitors, and both gap lists are capped (80 and 100 rows) on purpose: it's a work list, not a data export.
